Things to look out for when you purchase Henna

Updated: Feb 9, 2022

Did you know that Henna has been used as a hair dye for approximately 6,000 years? Surprising, right? Well, Henna has always been one of the best and highly used hair beauty ingredients within India and all across the world. The immense popularity it has gained over the years is because of the numerous benefits it carries with it. However, the number of sellers in the market can influence you to purchase what might not be the best for you.

Thus, here are five things that you should look out for:

1.Check the colour:

The colour of natural henna powder is a light green colour. If mixed with water and it gives you another colour than this, it implies artificial colouring. Avoid using this Henna.

2.Check the smell:

Natural Henna is a pure herb. Thus, it should smell like plant matter. If you take a “sniff test” to prevent yourself from fake Henna, you would be able to smell a grassy scent masked with essential oil. In case you sense a pungent smell like that of a chemical, avoid using it.

3.Check the freshness:

The only way to ensure that the Henna you use is fresh is to carefully look out for the date of manufacturing and ensure that it is that of recent manufacture. This is important if you want to have a longer stain and, thus, the best results.

4.Check the time it takes to stain:

Natural Henna produced takes the time for 8-12 hours. If the Henna you use gives you an instant colour within a shorter period than this, then you’ve probably been using an artificial colour made of ingredients unhealthy for your hair.

5. Check the ingredients:

By this, we don’t merely mean looking out for the ingredients on the back of your box but also keeping an eye out for sand particles, which various sellers can put in. You can check this by putting some henna powder between two glass surfaces. If you hear a scratching sound, then you probably have sand in your Henna.

We hope you make the right choice and lookout for the best!
